Intelligent Lighting in a traditional manor

The requirements within the manor house were to provide a home network for telephone, data, and audio visual requirements along with an intelligent lighting and heating system. The manor is a listed building and with this the clients wanted to retain all period features within the home and the control of these systemsmust reflect this.

There is very little equipment on display in the house but the design and installtion of a multimedia network has allowed for the use of each room to change its function very easily. The multimedianetwork distributes Sky throughout the property, a telephone network, and a wired data network. The wired data network was essential as the wireless signal is interrupted by the thick granite walls.

The AV network also included a wired multi room music system. A range of choice of sources (digital music, CD, or radio) can be chosen and played around the manor via simple to operate in wall panels.

The main fuction of our installation here was to allow for an intelligent lighting and heating system which can be operated very easily around the manor.The system runs on the KNX protocol and the system allows for switching of multiple circuits via one wall switch.

There are many benefits of an intelligent lighting and heating system within the home. The intelligence comes from the ability to program the modules and switches which form the lighting and heating system. These components can be programmed to do anything that is cabled on the network and therefore create pre-programmed lighting scenes for entertaining. The programming possibilites are endless and can save energy along with light bulb life.

In this project theeasy control of multiple circuits both inside and outside were a massive benefit as thegrounds are extensive. The clients also entertain guests a lot and the simple pre-programmed scenes operated in the dining roomallow for the easy setting of an ambient environment. Simple programming of the system such as the all ‘off” switch by the main entrance and ground floor ‘off’ in the master bedroom give the clients easy energy control without even thinking.
